Presentation of the EPHE-PSL Central Services

Office of Legal and Institutional Affairs

The Office of Legal and Institutional Affairs provides legal advice, as wel as contract negotiations and agreements. The Office offers legal advice in matters of governance, for staff and others; it handles and manages the establishment's pre-litigation and litigation; it ensures the smooth running of the establishment's central councils; and it organises or coordinates the main elections within the EPHE-PSL (central councils, CNU, CNESER, etc.). Finally, the Directorate functions as data protection officer (DPO) at the CNIL, as well as ethics referent and whistleblower referent of the EPHE in coordination with the network of the College of Ethics of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

Communication Office

The Communication Department, in conjunction with the general management of the institution, defines the overall communication strategy and the resulting communication plan. The Communication Department steers and implements the institutional communication of the EPHE–PSL, including global strategy, activities, and reputation. The Department collaborates with faculty to promote their scholarship, teaching, and public engagement to a wider audience. It also advises the members of the EPHE community, producing various communication materials and organizing cross-disciplinary events, as well as managing the EPHE’s website.

Office of Academic Affairs and Student Life

The Office implements the institution's initial training courses in compliance with the standards and regulations in force and carries out all the administrative tasks resulting from them. It oversees the development of student life and manages the registrations of EPHE auditors. This department is divided into three sections: Doctorate, Master's, and student life and auditors.

Finance and Accounting Office

The EPHE's Finance and Accounting Office brings together the functions of a finance department and an accounting agency. It ensures the implementation of the EPHE's budgetary and financial policy, while respecting the financial sustainability of this policy in the short and medium term. To this end, it builds and executes the annual budget, organises and leads the financial function in permanent collaboration with all the EPHE's departments, and implements tools for modernising and optimising budgetary and financial processes. Finally, with the accounting agency, it defines and carries out the internal financial control guaranteeing risk control. In application of the principle of separation of authorising officers and accountants, the accounting agency is responsible for managing the EPHE's funds. It carries out all collection and disbursement operations, keeps asset accounting and produces financial and accounting information for internal and external use.

Office of Continuing Education

The Office of Continuing Education implements the EPHE's vocational training policy through EPHE diplomas, short courses and certificates. It is also involved in the training course offered by the institution by examining the administrative files of students wishing to enroll under the continuing education regime, or receiving professionalization contracts, or registering trainees on the France Emploi platform. Similarly, the Continuing Education Office connect with the professional world by offering personalised training for local authorities and companies through intra-company training.

Office of Research and Doctoral Studies

The Office collaborates closely with the Vice President in charge of Research and the Director of the Doctoral School 472. The Office implements the institution's research policy, also ensuring the management of doctoral training and the support of doctoral students at the Doctoral School 472. The service brings together four divisions: Archives, Open Science and Documentation; Setting up and monitoring projects; Research and development; Doctoral school. It is the privileged interlocutor of the EPHE-PSL research units (18 in SHS and 27 in SVT), as well as with of national and international partners and research organizations. Its missions also concern the monitoring and promotion of the institution's scientific production and the implementation of actions for open science.

Office of International Relations

The office of International Relations contributes to the definition of the European and international strategy of the EPHE-PSL. The Office signs strategic partnership agreements with foreign institutions and its " university and scientific cooperation" division supports faculty in setting up scientific collaborations and responding to calls for projects. It also manages student and professional mobility, participates in the development of international training courses and ensures the integration of foreign students and researchers. Its "language teaching" department supports students in their mobility, further studies and professional integration projects by providing them with a range of courses based on the levels of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (English, Italian, German and FLE).

Human Resources Office

The Human Resources Office is responsible for the recruitment of staff (competitive examinations and direct recruitment), the career management of BIATSS, and faculty and instructors. As such, it is responsible for the management of the payroll, the monitoring of leave and the CET. It implements collective management campaigns: grade advancement, aptitude list, bonus campaigns, professional evaluation report (CREP), etc., if necessary, in conjunction with the secretariats of the sections. In addition, HR develops and deploys an annual training plan, a forward-looking workforce and skills management policy, a social policy, a disability policy, and a prevention policy for employees. Finally, it ensures the administrative management of the social dialogue bodies and their preparation.

Information System Office

The mission of the Information System Office is to implement the information systems policy to meet the objectives related to the EPHE's strategy. It provides all EPHE stakeholders with the digital means to develop research, teaching and administrative management. To do this, it manages the associated infrastructure (networks, servers and other equipment), provides expertise in various digital fields, provides IT assistance and support and carries out projects for the evolution of the information system.

Publications Service 

The primary mission of the EPHE's publications department is to publish the research work of the teacher-researcherfacultys of the institution or institutions with which the EPHE-PSL maintains academic links. To this end, the editors of the service carry out a technical analysis of the proposed manuscripts in order to enable the editorial committees, the experts appointed by the latter and the directors of the series to evaluate them and define the editorial framework in which they will be published. The department then ensures the editorial preparation of the work, from the author's typescript to the proof to print, with a view to print and digital distribution. The department also publishes two scientific directories each year, which reflect the EPHE's scientific activity and teaching in the humanities, and works closely with two private publishers and public partners. The publications Service thus contributes to the dissemination and promotion of the scientific work of teacher-researcherfaculty scholarship and testifies supportsto the excellentce of the research carried out at the EPHE-PSL. The department works in collaboration with the EPHE's other departments.
